Science Teacher Transforms Kitchen into Chemistry Lab, Bringing Online Lessons to Life

When the pandemic turned in-person learning virtual for the students at a Washington, D.C. high school, one chemistry teacher didn’t take long to get creative with his lessons.

Jonte Lee’s turned his kitchen into a chemistry lab, used his own money to buy and deliver supplies for his 35 students, then he got to teaching.

Now it’s not just Lee’s students who are enjoying his at-home lessons: videos of The Kitchen Chemist have since gone viral with schoolchildren elsewhere in America.

“You’re finding some brightness in all this aren’t you,” an interviewer at NBC asked him. “That’s what we teachers do!” Jonte replied, smiling. Find him on Instagram for more joy, more inspiration.
